How Nerf Radar works

Nerf Radar turns official patch notes into structured, searchable change data. This is how a patch gets from the publisher's notes to this site.

1. Official notes only

We only use patch notes published by each game's developer or publisher:

Every patch page links to the official notes it came from, and every change shows the exact source line it was taken from (open “Source line” under any change).

2. Structured with AI-assisted tooling

Parsers and AI-assisted tools split the notes into individual changes: what changed (a class, champion, agent, hero, weapon, item or system), the ability or stat, the before and after values, and the kind of change.

3. Every change is checked against the official text

Before anything is published, automatic checks compare each change with the official notes:

  • The quoted source line must appear in the official notes.
  • The name of what changed must appear in the official notes.
  • Every number in the summary and in the before and after values must appear in the source line.
  • Summaries are checked for leftover or garbled text.
  • A change is only labeled a buff or a nerf when there is a reason: the numbers move in one clear direction, the official notes say so, or the change can only work one way. Anything else is labeled Adjust.

4. Uncertain items are held for review

When the official text is unclear or looks like a typo, for example an old value that doesn't add up, the change is held back instead of guessed. Held changes are not published on the site or in the API until they are resolved.

5. New patches

We check the official sources for new notes throughout the day. A new patch is published once it passes the checks above, and it then appears on the home page, the game page, the RSS feeds and, if you turned them on, in notifications.

What the labels mean

  • Buff A change that makes something stronger, such as more damage or a shorter cooldown.
  • Nerf A change that makes something weaker.
  • Adjust A mixed or neutral change, described without judging it.
  • New Something added to the game.
  • Removed Something taken out of the game.
  • Fix A bug fix.

Always check the official notes linked on each page. If something here doesn't match them, please tell us and we'll correct it.
