Beta build: these notes are for the World of Warcraft: Forever beta test. Changes can be revised before they reach a release build.

TL;DRThe latest World of Warcraft: Forever beta build opens the City of Dalaran dungeon for testing, raises dungeon creature experience by about 20%, and restores Classic-style party experience and looting. Rage gains from damage are fixed and rebalanced for Warriors and Druids, Bear Form threat and Feral critical Rage go up, and Retribution Aura and Thorns lose a large share of their spell power scaling.

Who this matters to

Dungeon runners and levelers

Dungeon creature kills give about 20% more experience, party experience again follows Classic Era rules, and City of Dalaran is open for testing.

Warriors and Druids

Rage from taking damage is fixed and rebalanced, Bear Form and Dire Bear Form threat rises to 50% from 30%, and Feral critical strikes grant 100% extra Rage (was 75%).

Paladins and DoT casters

Retribution Aura returns to Vanilla base damage with spell power ratio cut to 6% (was 13.3%), and Thorns gets the same spell power cut.

Hunters and Priests

Expose Prey lasts 10 seconds (was 5), and Penance damage, healing, and Rank 1 mana cost are retuned after a channel-duration bug.

Experience

Fix
Fixed a bug that reduced experience for players in a party with higher-level members killing lower-level enemies; party experience again follows Classic Era rules based on each member's level.
Source line
Fixed a bug that reduced XP granted to players who were in a party with higher-level players killing lower-level enemies.
  • Developers' notes: So far in WoW: Forever, experience for killing lower-level enemies while in a party was penalized based on the highest-level member of the party. In Classic Era, that adjustment was made individually for each party member without regard for the highest-level party member. We've reverted the calculation to the Classic Era behavior, where only the individual's level matters. We believe the combination of these two changes will dramatically increase experience earned in dungeons for most players.
  • Developers' notes: As before, if a member of the party is at a vastly higher level than the enemy being killed, then no player in the party will receive XP, as intended.

Rage

Buff
Rage gained from taking damage is rebalanced around 20% to 40% Armor by level (was balanced around 50% Armor), so questing Warriors and Druids should gain more Rage.
50% armor→20% to 40% armor
Source line
Developers' notes: Previously, we were balancing Rage gained around Warriors having 50% Armor. While this was appropriate for a tank, it was not appropriate for questing Warriors. We have rebalanced Rage gains based on appropriate values per level in the 20% to 40% range, varying by level.

Looting

Fix

Rage

Fix
Fixed a bug where Rage from damage used the player's health instead of an expected creature's health, which under-granted Rage in higher Stamina gear.
Source line
Fixed a bug where the Rage calculation was incorrectly using the player's health to determine Rage gained, instead of an expected creature's health. This incorrectly resulted in less Rage earned while wearing more Stamina gear.
Fix
Fixed a bug where Rage from damage ignored combat multipliers such as critical strikes and crushing blows.
Source line

Source line

  • Developers' notes: Previously, we were balancing Rage gained around Warriors having 50% Armor. While this was appropriate for a tank, it was not appropriate for questing Warriors. We have rebalanced Rage gains based on appropriate values per level in the 20% to 40% range, varying by level.

Adjust
Shapeshift Forms
Effects that override shapeshifting now more closely resemble Classic WoW, so the Druid's current form stays visible in combat in more cases.
Source line
The effects that override shapeshifting now more closely resemble Classic wow.
  • Developers' notes: The Druid's form is a critical piece of information in combat and preserving the ability for players to see what form the Druid is currently in is important. We appreciate the desire for Druid players to still transform, so there are effects that will still work, it is just now much more limited and largely based on if that transform has other benefits (for example, Noggenfogger Elixir will still transform you because it lets you breathe underwater.)

Structured by Nerf Radar from the official notes (parsed automatically and reviewed by hand). Parsed from the October 8 staff reply in Blizzard's WoW Forever Beta Development Notes thread. Prose under Changes and Updates (City of Dalaran, weapon swapping, dungeon experience, party experience) and the Rage armor-rebalance developer note were added by hand. Known Issues are not changes. Buff and nerf labels use stated numbers or Blizzard's own framing.
